The Location

Shilbottle is a typically rural Northumberland village. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and located just 3 miles southeast of Alnwick and around the same distance from the picturesque coastal villages of Alnmouth and Warkworth.

Alnwick has been voted as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK and living at Town Foot Rise offers all that Alnwick has and more with rolling hills and dramatic views out to sea. The delights of Northumberland, its castles, coast and countryside are all within easy reach. And the main A1 arterial route is just a few minutes’ drive away.

Town Foot Rise is nestled into the landscape in a farmyard setting about half a mile outside the village accessed off Percy Road which leads to Alnmouth and Amble. Each home enjoys a generous plot in a private cul de sac with rural views across to Alnwick to the North and the coastal villages of Alnmouth, Warkworth and Amble to the East

The village itself has a long history of coal mining and many of the buildings were built to house the miners and their families. The local parish church is St James’ with some of the stonework incorporated into the building dating back to the 12th century. Adjacent to the church is Shilbottle Tower, a pele tower begun before 1415 and a stunning landmark in the centre of the picturesque village.

The village is well-served with all the amenities you immediately need. And can be reached by car in just a few minutes or by a leisurely 15 minute stroll down Tyelaw Meadow, a green lane running past the entrance to Town Foot Rise.

A traditional pub, The Farriers Arms now incorporates a ‘Running Fox’, the renowned artisan bakery serving warm pastries in the morning, breakfast, lunch or scrumptious afternoon tea which you can enjoy either in-house in cosy surroundings or to takeaway.

For the foodies amongst us, the renowned Lal Khazana is at the entrance to the village and enjoys a great reputation far and wide for their excellent Indian Cuisine.

Shilbottle has its own primary school and there is a further choice of schools both primary and secondary in Alnwick.

Alnwick also has all the usual support services on offer, healthcare, doctors, clinics and dentists, as well as a great selection of attractive boutiques and gift shops and the famous traditional market days in the town centre.

There is an array of big retailers and supermarkets on the retail parks on the outskirts of the town all with free parking with Sainsbury’s and M&S Food being closest!

The city of Newcastle upon Tyne and the Metro Centre in Gateshead are both less than 40 minutes’ drive South. Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, can be reached in a couple of hours too.

The great outdoors is on your doorstep, whether your preference is for hills, forest or coast, all are just a short drive away.

With trails and adventure in the National Park for walkers, climbers and cyclists of every ability, and a range of water sports available on the heritage coastline, Northumberland is the most beautiful county to visit. The historical links golf courses of Alnmouth Village Golf Club and the splendour of Alnmouth Golf Club at Foxton Hall, the 4th oldest club in England, are just minutes away.

GETTING THERE

Shilbottle is directly accessed from the A1, with exit access Northbound and Southbound.

Both routes arrive at Town Foot Rise in under 5 minutes along picturesque, hedged country roads.

Travelling Southbound, exit at Alnwick and join the road signposted to Shilbottle. Continue for two miles to the T- junction, turn left to join Percy Road and then immediately turn right to access the lane to Town Foot Rise.

If driving from the North exit before Alnwick, signposted Shilbottle, drive through the village and onto Percy Rd, after half a mile turn right to access the lane to Town Foot Rise.
